ABOUT US

Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 8, 1998 at the University of Texas at Austin. 27 collegiate women came together in an effort to establish the most unique and diverse sorority of its kind. The founders envisioned a sorority based around eight defining principles: Character, Leadership, Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service, Culture, Womanhood, and Self. We host various programs for our university and community in an effort to highlight the importance of each principle and embrace what they mean to us as sisters of this sorority. We hold these principles dear to our heart.

PHILANTHROPY

Our Mission: Cancer Awareness

Kappa Phi Gamma aims to educate the community about the effects of cancer and aid those in need. Nationally, we have raised over $98,000+ and have donated our service to over 40 different charities. Each year, during the month of April (National Cancer Awareness Month), sisters collaborate with their community and university to host C.A.R.E. Week (Cancer Awareness: A Real Effort!). During this week, various events, tabling, and games are held to educate the public and raise money to donate to a specific charity.  Events that have been held by chapters/charters in the past include...

Kick Off Rally
Bone Marrow Registration Drive
Candle Light Vigils
Big/Little Showdown
Mr. C.A.R.E. Pageant

Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS THE NEW MEMBER EDUCATION PROGRAM?

More than anything else, the New Member Education Program is a learning period.  During this learning process, a New Member gets educated about the values and ideals of Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. as well as its history and traditions.  Most importantly, during this period, all New Members get acquainted with the Sisters of the Sorority and vice versa.  An Intake Director is assigned to each New Member line who will lead the New Members through this learning process.

REQUIREMENTS FOR JOINING?

All new members are required to attend 1 informational and 2 additional rush events during rush week and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be eligible for an interview.

IF I WORK OR AM TAKING CLASSES, WILL I BE ABLE TO HAVE TIME FOR PROCESS?

One of the major virtues of any successful individual is being able to manage his or her time most efficiently.  Efficient time management is one of the key elements stressed during the New Member Education Program.  Being that we focus a great deal on scholarship, we will work with you to make sure your school work is not compromised.  We understand you have other obligations besides the Sorority.  We will honor these obligations and will make every attempt to accommodate your schedule.  However, it is for you to decide if you want to manage your time efficiently.  You will find that Kappa Phi Gamma is very flexible with respect to your school work and/or jobs.

WILL MY GRADES BE AFFECTED IF I BECOME A NEW MEMBER?

Being a sorority member is a time commitment, but one of the core values of sororities is academic excellence and time management. Each chapter/charter has to maintain a certain grade point average, therefore each member must maintain the same during their college experience. If members do not meet their requirements, chapters/charters provide resources to the members, enforce study hours, and may even prohibit them from attending events until improvement is shown in grades. Academic success is always a priority.

WILL I BE HAZED?

No! Kappa Phi Gamma is strictly a non-hazing organization.  Any hazing incident would end up in expulsion of the member from Kappa Phi Gamma. Kappa Phi Gamma does not promote any underage drinking. For more information: Hazing Policy & Alcohol Policy.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO BE A NEW MEMBER?

Kappa Phi Gamma does not charge a fee to participate in the New Member Education Program.  However, the program might require you to purchase certain materials that would be needed during the process.  These materials are affordable by average college students and you will be reimbursed.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO BE A PART OF KAPPA PHI GAMMA SORORITY, INC?

Kappa Phi Gamma charges dues every semester. Each sister is expected to pay $160 per semester.

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED FROM A NEW MEMBER?

Kappa Phi Gamma expects all New Members to exhibit character, scholarship, sisterhood, service, leadership, culture, womanhood, and self not only at Rutgers University, but also throughout the community.
